The EGCC club race season calendar is now available for download here.

Highlights of the 2019 racing season to look out for are:

  • We are returning to Coolgardie for the 3rd annual Coolgardie Roubaix event. Test yourselves on the complex terrain of cobblestones and haul roads just like the WorldTour peloton will be at the Paris-Roubaix on the same weekend.
  • The invitation series will take place again, where local riders who would like to try taking part in a race can do so without any fees. Contact the EGCC committee for more information.
  • The club's flagship event, the 2019 Golfields Cyclassic, is taking palce again over the 1st weekend in June. Test yourself across 2 days and 235km of racing across the plains of the region against some of the state's best cyclists.
  • We also hope to get a large EGCC contingent to attend the Esperance CC's annual event the Tour de Esperance in mid July.

Welcome back everyone to our 2018 Race Season.

We look forward to safe and exciting season for all riders. We would like to especially welcome new riders to the club.

We are excited to see our junior rider program growing. EGCC recently invested in a nubmer of small bikes which we plan to loan to new junior riders so they try the sport of cycling for a while before investing in thier own bikes.  We also continue to have adult racing bikes available for hire on a weekly basis.

Our club races can not run with out volunteers. Thanks to the Commisaires and the race marshalls.  We ask that all senior riders take thier turn assiting in the running of our club races. Riders will be allocated 7 points for thier first marshalling duty and 2 points for subsequent races. Club members are reminded that they need to compete in 3 club races prior to the Goldfields Cyclassic to qualify for EGCC prizes and 5 club races/marshalling duties to qualify for the EGCC Club Championships.

Check out the volutneer calander and let Cameron egccpresident@yahoo.com  know which race you will be assisting with.

As always all riders must have a race licence before racing. These are available online at http://wa.cycling.org.au/Membership

Remember stay safe whilst riding:  Stay left, be predicable and front and rear flashing lights.

2017 Race season off to a flyer

The first five rounds of the 2017 race season have been completed, with a great turnout at each round

The season kicked off again with the annual grading races - the Bulong Rd ITT and the Yarri Rd Scratch Race.

Garth Cooper came out of the woodwork after his long hiatus due to injury to pip TT specialist Cameron Blyth in the ITT.

Tim Castles took line honours from a fast finishing Ramon Andiach in the Yarri Rd event after a strong ride home from the Kanowna Bell turn point took its toll on many riders.

Ramon turned the tables on Tim at the following event in Kambalda East to take line honours. His climbing skills which shone through the previous week in Pemberton came to the fore again, and he managed to make up his handicap defecit at the base of the final climb. Paul Day put in a strong performance to take 3rd place.

The Dave Dellar handicap saw Troy Francesconi debut for the season and make a bold breakaway from the A grade peloton. His tactics paid off as he pegged back the front runners with barely 1km to go to the finish to cross the line first.

The Coolgardie Roubaix - the brainchild of club stalwarts Paul Day and Grant Bull was a novel and challenging new addition to this year's race calendar. The course was drawn up as an ode to the classic race the Paris-Roubaix, and had a similar variety of parcour to navigate - the main street of Coolgardie, unsealed gravel haul roads, and a very challenging 500m stretch of cobbestone laneways, Aron Barclay made his maiden appearance for the season and managed to overhaul Chris Hesford up the final climb to the finish line to take home the coveted cobblestone trophy.

The early front runner in the season point score is Tony Sherlock, who has shown consistency is the key with minor placings in three of the first five races. Hot on his heels is Tim Castles who had a great start to the season, but a double puncture at the Coolgardie Roubaix left him with a DNF. The next race scheduled for 30th April is the 64km Phill Tanner Memorial Handicap where riders head from West Kalgoorlie to bayley St Coolgardie and back again. Participation has been fantastic this season so if you're still sitting on the fence about getting involved dust off your trusty steed and come join in!
